ESL - Pearson Edexcel International GCSE English as a Second Language
CEFR-aligned language development from A2 to B2
Pearson Edexcel International GCSE English as a Second Language is designed for learners who use English as a second language and need to communicate effectively in study, work, and wider life. Pearson states that the qualification is benchmarked against many of the descriptors from CEFR levels A2 to B2, with stronger performance reaching broadly into B1 to B2. The course is unitised and recommends a two-year duration. Learners build confidence across the four key language skills: Reading, Listening, Writing, and Speaking. Topics and contexts are chosen to reflect practical communication in familiar and unfamiliar situations, including school, travel, employment, and issues of global relevance. At Hayl International School, this pathway supports learners who need a rigorous English language qualification and a clear route into further study delivered in English.
